We are proud to be collaborating with our Kitenga Village Project partners – the Immaculate Heart Sisters of Africa. At 150 and growing, they are a dynamic faith-based community headquartered in Musoma, in the Mara Region of Tanzania. The Sisters are dedicated to improving the quality of life for their extended neighbors, especially women and girls and they have a track record of success to prove it.
The Sisters have run one of the highest performing secondary schools for girls in the region; a home for disabled children, a boarding community for deaf and mute children and programs and housing for ‘street children’. For over 20 years, they have also run a dairy farm, health clinic and primary school at a village not too far from Kitenga. They have a track record of success advocating for the marganilzed and are committed to being the strategic regional hub for Tanzania’s Poverty Reduction Strategy (PRS) program.
We are fortunate to be able to work in hand with such a passionate, thoughtful and hard working group of women. They have the respect and support of the local government and village members are anxious for the school to open!
“The School for Girls is inclined to prepare socially responsible leaders for national development. The girls, exiting from the school, will be able to participate in scientific activities, develop competitive analytical and problem solving skills and will be committed to foster their basic human rights based on their conviction and knowledge to improve their lives through work and service.”
