Girls Education Collaborative (GEC) is a US-based 501(c) 3 non-profit that supports and promotes the efforts of local communities in developing countries to improve quality, holistic educational opportunities for girls. We bring together local and global participants around grass roots, locally-driven projects where girls education is at the core. With the goal of building local capacity and sustainability, GEC integrates its girls education efforts with other key interrelated issues such as health and infrastructure, economic and community development and agriculture. GEC believes that education is at the center, but not alone, in creating more positive futures for the world’s girls living in poverty.
“ Congrats on the great work. I’m a huge believer that educating girls is, if not a silver bullet, as least a bronze bullet – the best leverage we have for fighting poverty.”
Think of GEC as a ‘portal’. We leverage the resources and expertise of our collaborative partners, and in turn, bring previously untapped assets to community initiatives. Our model is based on:
• Responding to a rural community’s girls education needs
• Creative and responsive approaches
• Building on previous learning
• Measurement and evaluation
• Creating connections, across fields and sectors
